Rosé wines are difficult, probably because they have been considered, on the contrary, too “easy”.
For many years they have been judged as second class wines, wines without personality or character, which are usually chosen by people who don’t know much about wine and can’t come to a decision between whites or reds…
But making a rosé wine is not so simple: the same care to grape growing, a careful selection of the clusters, a great attention to the ripening process and to the evolution of the acidity, especially here in Sicily, where high temperatures in summer time risk to lead to over-ripening, which will overload aromas and eventually ruin the color.
La Bambina comes from the Nero d’Avola grapes grown in the new vineyard named “La Costa”, on its first harvest: a short maceration of 5 hours in the press, to obtain a delicate onion skin color and the freshest aromas, floral and fruity, that only our seaside terroir is able to express: strawberry, watermelon and wisteria blossoms.
Winemaking has been an anxious wait, so that the name we later chose for the wine comes out from myself feeling like a mother expecting her baby, from the first day of harvest to the moment when I could open the first bottle.
This award is a joy that I want to share with all who have believed in my “baby rose” since the very beginning.
Congratulations, Bambina!
